Therapy? are an alternative rock band from Northern Ireland.

current members are:

Andy Cairns
Michael McKeegan
Neil Cooper

Andy Cairns and Fyfe Ewing meet at a gig of local bands in Northern Ireland in 1989. A mutual taste in music and attitude drives them to decide to start a band.
Their influences include Big Black, Sonic Youth, The Undertones, That Petrol Emotion, Captain Beefheart, Motörhead, early Metallica, Fugazi, The Stooges, Hip Hop (Public Enemy) and Jazz (John Zorn).  They decide on the name Therapy? because it’s short and easy to remember.

The band's early years followed the well-known pattern of hard graft on the local alternative music scene where cauught the attention because their distinctively uncompromising style.  Their use of guitar feedback as a "fourth instrument" and unconventional song structures, combined with a darkly original approach to lyrics led them to being spotted in 1991 by the hip London-based independent label Wiiija a move helped by Leslie Rankine of Silverfish, who passed the band's first single on to Wiiija Records. The band returned the favour on their fourth album Troublegum by giving Rankine a guest appearance as a backing vocalist.

The success came easy after the first two albums and just after the release of their 3rd, the media began to draw comparisons between Nirvana and them. Although it was clear that the band's music was changing, evolving from experimental noise trips into something far more accessible, after the 5th album, Infernal Love, everybody said that the "first momentum's gone".  In 1996, after Fyfe Ewing left the band, Cairns have replaced him with Graham Hopkins and had a permanent guest of the band in the person of the  cellist Martin McCarrick.  The Semi-Detached album is in retrospect the band at its most radio-friendly and they had to wait untill the quiting of Graham Hopkins and the coming of Neil Cooper in 2004 to have a great album again that reminds of the sound of their earlier material.
Their newest album One Cure Fits All produced different reactions from the band's fans with many people claiming to not like the production style.

Their career seems somehow finished, but although now vanished from the charts and wide media attention, Therapy? continue releasing material, gaining enough attention to enable them to tour. The band continues to entertain a small loyal following. Even though he has reached the age of 40, Cairns has been quoted as having no plans to quit.
Their next album is planned to be released early in 2009.
