Underoath is an American metalcore band from Tampa, Florida. Founded by Dallas Taylor and Luke Morton on November 30, 1997 in Ocala, Florida, subsequently its additional members were from Tampa, Florida. They are currently signed with Solid State Records, a subsidiary of Tooth and Nail Records, and are the
label's most popular group.
After several line-up changes, Underoath's only original member is drummer Aaron Gillespie. With original vocalist Dallas Taylor, they released Act of Depression, Cries of the Past, and The Changing of Times. Following his departure, Spencer Chamberlain became lead vocalist. The band then released They're Only Chasing Safety and Define the Great Line, gaining a certified gold rating and the highest-charting Christian album on The Billboard 200 since 1997 respectively. These two albums have given them more mainstream and commercial success.
They have received two Grammy nominations in 2007 and 2010 respectively and have recorded a live CD/DVD box set entitled Survive, Kaleidoscope, which was released on May 27, 2008. From late February to early May the band recorded their latest studio album entitled Lost in the Sound of Separation, which was
released on September 2, 2008,and peaked at number 8 on the Billboard 200.
"Too Bright to See, Too Loud to Hear" is a song by metalcore band Underoath. The song was released as the second single from their sixth album Lost in the Sound of Separation and is the 10th track on the record. The song is notable to contain less unclean vocals in comparison to the other Underoath songs, but to have Spencer Chamberlain and Aaron Gillespie sing throughout.
Video
The video for "Too Bright to See, Too Loud to Hear" is the first to not have the band present and the video consists of stop motion animation. It opens with
the camera moving through a desolate forest, then a faceless father and son are show in front of windmills with which the son is shown wallowing on the
ground. The camera then goes underground and an elderly man is seen twisting a lever which on the surface are shown to control the hands of a giant man. Then another windmill on a hill is seen, then many men dressed in skeleton costumes clap along with the song during the bridge. Then a family is passed by and there is shown a shipyard and a lighthouse is seen. The video progresses to where a the giant man rises to his feet and head sticks into the clouds. By the end of the song in which the rapid tempo comes about from the song, lightning hits the giant repeatedly then then the storm ends and the giant walks away.
The music video was made by a fan in a contest, presented by keyboardist Christopher Dudley, on February 2, 2009. He posted a YouTube video on the official Underoath channel. Whoever that would take part in the contest that made the "best video" for the song would win various prizes and was exclusive only to residents of the United Kingdom. The winner would receive backstage access at the Give It a Name Tour, with Underoath and Taking Back Sunday. The nine runners-up won a Lost in the Sound of Separation box set, which included two vinyl disks, a CD, a DVD, and a picture book of the recording of the album.
