Soundgarden called it quits in 1997. On January 1, 2010, Chris Cornell posted an ambiguous message on his MySpace page. Actually, this was just an announcement that the Fan-Club is active again. However, an official re-union was eventually confirmed.

By many, Soundgarden are often considered the fathers of the "alternative metal" and "grunge" genres. Their hit single "Black Hole Sun" (from the 1994 album "Superunknown" ) earned the band worldwide popularity.

Scott McCullum was originally going be their drummer but only practiced a couple of times with them in early 1986, before Matt Cameron called to offer his services to Chris.

Chris Cornell sang for the hard rock group Audioslave (which featured all the members of Rage Against the Machine other than Zack De La Rocha) between 2002 and 2007. He left because of "personality conflicts as well as musical differences" and the group is believed to have split up. Cornell also did the theme song for the James Bond movie "Casino Royale". He has also released three solo studio albums to date; "Euphoria Morning" (1999), "Carry On" (2007), and "Scream" (2009), the last of which being a controversial collaboration with the renowned R'nB/pop producer Timbaland.

Matt Cameron plays drums in the grunge group Pearl Jam now.

Guitarist Kim Thayil was a guest on Sunn O)))/Boris album "ALTAR".
