Sons Of Otis are a Stoner Doom Metal band, hailing from Toronto, Canada. They formed in 1992 as Otis, which they took from a character in the movie Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer. Sons of Otis was formed by Ken Baluke in Toronto sometime around the years 1992 and 1993. Strongly influenced by the underground heavy music of the time (Melvins/Fudge Tunnel/Shallow N.D)
After their debut EP called Paid To Suffer in 1994, they changed their name to Sons Of Otis. They were signed to The Music Cartel, which ceased its activities in 2005. They are known for their trance-like neuron-firing live performances which included spinning lights and smoke machines.
The band went through about 11 drummers and has at times resorted to a drum machine for recordings as well as performances. Every single record released by the band to date has been distributed by now defunct labels, leaving the band's back catalog consistently out of print.
These guys doom it up big time. Imagine listening to your favourite St. Vitus album on acid and you've got Sons Of Otis. From the stop/go of "Clowns", the bass-laden 10min "Big Muff"(which the first 8 min is just bass & sound effects) and probably the most straight-ahead track "The Truth", Sons of Otis definitely stretch the boundries of doom and psycedelic. A little too self-indulgent for my liking, but sure to please the "stoner rock" generation.

This was the first release of this album.
It was re-released in 2000 by Man's Ruin Records [MR 198 CD] minus tracks 1, 2 and 10
