[Request] Dawn Of Silence - 2006 - Moment Of Weakness

Melodic heavy metal from Sweden, debut full-length album released in 2006.

It all started in a small town called Finspång in Sweden, around the year of 2000 when Patrik Johansson (guitar), Mats Johansson (guitar) and Torbjörn Edqvist (drums) met in school and became very good friends. The common interest for Heavy Metal and in particular Iron Maiden did that they wanted to start a band. So they hired a rehearsalroom and started to practice, only Iron Maiden songs were included in the repertoire at this time. After a while the "band" got bored of playing covers, so they started to write their own songs. At this time Mats younger brother Pelle joined forces for the bass position and Patrik also started to sing, and Dawn of Silence was born..

The first demo "Eternity" was recorded in a local studio in 2002, thereafter 4 more demos have been recorded, all in local studios, World of lies (2003), Follow your Heart (2003), Fear of Life (2004) and Lost all Hope (2005). These demos have brought forth alot of good reviews in magazines, netzines and more. Songs have been played over the radio in a various of contries, and Dawn of Silence had so begun to create a name, especially in the hometown after their notorious live performances. The only thing missing was a record deal, to spread the music world wide..

In 2006 the band got tired of waiting for a recorddeal, therefore they decided to go into "Black Lounge Studio" with Jonas Kjellgren (Scar Symmetry, Centinex) as producer/engineer to record their first professional fullength album. The recording paid off, with the same lineup and heart and soul of melodic Heavy Metal, Dawn of Silence released their long time eagerly awaited debut album "MOMENT OF WEAKNESS" (Metal Heaven Records, November 2006). The album got recieved with alot of good reviews and seemed to be welcomed by the world. Unfortunately all touring plans came to nothing due to some (or alot) problems beyond their control. But a bunch of club & festivalgigs have been made..

In February 2008 the band once again decided to enter the "Black Lounge Studio" to record album number two. At this time the band had seperated with Metal Heaven and the search for a new record label had so begun. Almost a year passed until the band finally found a suitable record label in GMR Music Group (Sweden) who will release the new album called "WICKED SAINT OR RIGHTEOUS SINNER" in February 2010.

If you like good Heavy and Power Metal, let's say that you'll find good things on this release, but in anyway you'll be blinded by its originality.

"Moment Of Weakness", and that' s its main problem actually, is a perfect mix of Iron Maiden and Edguy. In this release, you'll be able to find the same kind of music than with this two bands, hyper melodic choruses, catchy melodies and riffs a la Maiden (exactly the same…). It's not so displeasing to listen to this album, Patrik Johansson is a good singer really (he is probably the strong point of the band) and the band wrote good songs. Unfortunately if I had to rate the originality of this album on 10, I think that I would give it 2; no more. "Moment Of Weakness" is not bad, but it sounds a bit like a clone. They will have to fix this problem…

Produced by Georg Siegl himself, this album doesn't really suffer of any big problems. The guys are good musicians, Patrick Johansson is a good singer (with a voice a la Bruce Dickinson) and to sum up, there is nothing to say against this band except maybe that it is a bit too much generic and similar to Iron Maiden. Though, with time and experience, it should change I think…

"Moment Of Weakness" is only a debut album, all is not perfect but if this young Swedish band didn't find the way to write songs with its own personality, it's obvious that they have a strong potential, so let's wait a bit, "Moment Of Weakness" is maybe not essential but it's promising. We will have to follow this band, if they manage to break the links with bands like Maiden or Edguy, it should work for them.
